How to use your cards
Read the card's usage type before looking for a button. An Activation card is deliberately used with Use Card. An Active card triggers when its condition occurs. A Passive card affects play while you hold it. Those labels explain why clicking every card does not produce an action.

Three usage types, three different decisions
| Type | Your question | Your next move |
|---|---|---|
| Activation | Is there a useful target and moment? | Read the effect, then use the card deliberately |
| Active | Has the stated trigger happened? | Watch for the event or condition; do not expect a manual activation |
| Passive | Is the effect still present and relevant? | Use the information or limitation while holding the card |
The community card reference distinguishes these types and notes that some cards expire after turns. Alignment is a separate label: Positive, Neutral and Negative describe the direction of an effect, rather than the way it activates. A positive passive card still does not become a button-operated ability.
Before any decision, read three pieces of information: the effect, the trigger or usage type, and the remaining duration. A remembered card name is not enough when a game update changes a description. The wording printed on your current card is the better guide to the current round.
Vision: information is useful only if you act on it

The pictured Vision card is Passive. Its text says you can see other players' cards, and the screenshot shows a four-round counter. It does not describe a direct attack or a manual action. Use the information to inspect a potential target or understand why another player survives; do not treat the eye icon as a weapon button.
A practical decision sequence is to look at the person relevant to the current event, read what their visible cards actually do, and then make the event's allowed choice. Information should change a decision, not replace the event prompt. Seeing a defensive card does not prove it works against every hazard; its own scope still matters.
Guardian and Disarm: check the recipient

The pictured Guardian card grants someone a Safety card lasting one turn. It is labelled Activation and breaks on use. This is a targeted gift in the displayed text, not a permanent protection upgrade. Before using it, consider who needs the effect and whether the upcoming threat is one that the resulting card actually covers.

The pictured Disarm card gives someone a Blank card for one turn. Reading “someone” is essential: the recipient matters. If you are using any targeted activation, check the selected player before confirming. Do not confuse a card you give away with an effect that automatically applies to you.
These screenshots show particular card versions. They are not a promise that every instance has the same duration after later updates. Use the displayed counter and wording in your own hand.
Blank: the event exception is part of the effect

The pictured Blank card makes the next bullet you fire a blank and explicitly excludes PVP events. That exception changes how you should interpret an apparently safe attack. Do not carry the normal-round effect into a duel just because the card is still visible.
This is a useful reading habit for the entire hand: read the final line as carefully as the first. A condition such as “on use,” “for one turn” or an excluded event can be more relevant than the card's positive or negative label. For event-specific exceptions, use the event guide.
When a card seems unusable
- No Use Card control: check whether it is Passive or Active. The missing button may be expected.
- The effect did not happen immediately: identify its trigger. Holding a triggered card is different from triggering it.
- The card disappeared: compare the printed consumption condition with the event that just occurred; a turn counter can also matter.
- A protection did not cover a hazard: read what it protects against. A bullet, a timed task and a different player's attack need not share the same rule.
- Another player's list uses unfamiliar names: compare printed descriptions rather than assuming names from an older guide are interchangeable.
A better hand-reading routine
Read your hand when it changes, not only when a dangerous event begins. Separate cards you must deliberately use from effects already waiting for a trigger. Check which card is close to expiring. Then reserve attention for the current prompt, because knowing your hand in advance reduces the amount of text you must process under a timer.
There is no evidence-backed universal tier list here. A card's usefulness depends on the current event, its remaining duration and the legal target. A conditional explanation is more useful than calling an information card “best” in a situation where you need a reaction.
